THE ALL NATION PENTECOSTAL |
FOUNDATION CHURCHES OF ALABAMA |

The All Nations Pentecostal Church was founded January 1, 1916 by Elder Lucy Smith at 3716 Langley Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. Some years later, Elder Josie Cason (who had been saved under Elder Smith's ministry) returned to her native Alabama hometown and established three churches--one at Dadeville (her hometown), one at Notasulga, and one at East Tallassee. Later, another church was established at Tuskegee, Alabama.
Elder Lucy Smith began her ministry as
an outreach ministry in the City of Chicago. She reached out to the
homeless and newly arrived to Chicago providing temporary shelter, food,
and other assistance to the needy. Her ministry developed into a large
following which she untimately organized into a church, thus founding the
All Nations Pentecostal Churches. The ministry continued to grow and
was eventually organized into a number of local churches with individual
internal ecclesiastic structures and officers.
Evangelist Josie Cason was a devout missionary who zealously
desired to bring to her hometown of Dadeville, Alabama, the rich religious
legacy which she had gained through the ministry of Elder Lucy Smith of
Chicago, Illinois. She had left Alabama and gone to live and
work in Chicago. But her mind was with relatives who sorely desired the promise
of true Holiness. Evangelist Cason brought that desire to fruition
when she returned to build a small church structure in Dadeville. During
her ministry, she met and confirmed James H. Terrell, a young, energetic
convert who ultimately would also give his life into the work of the Gospel
as did Elder Smith and Evangelist Cason.
James H. Terrell was born July 4, 1905 in Tallassee,
Alabama. A former member of Wall Street A.M.E. Zion Church, Elder
Terrell converted into the Holiness Faith under the ministry of Evangelist
Josie Cason. He became one of the primary movers in the organization
and, after the death of Elder Smith and Evangelist Cason, became the State
Overseer of the All Nations Pentecostal Foundation Churches, Inc. in
Alabama. Elder Terrell passed
away September 5, 1994. He was succeeded by Bishop Meharry H. Lewis,
Alabama Diocese Bishop in the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground
of the Truth, Inc., at which time the All Nation Pentecostal Church in Alabama
became an affiliate of that Church.
Some of the original members of the All Nations Pentecostal Foundation Church congregations were: Mamie L. Dixon, James Dixon, C.C. Holmes (Evangelist), Alice Cotton, Sallie Manderville, Mattie J. Carter, Alice Clemmons, Lillian Harvey, Esther Bolton, Annie Spencer, and Tannie Logan.
