Established in 1966
The Church at Joliet, Illinois was established through the efforts of Bishop L.M. Scates who came to Joliet to preach and teach the Gospel in 1966. Having revived the work in Chicago in 1954, she desired to extend the work into other parts of the state. She moved to Joliet to live in 1968 and continued mission work on Ada Street and other parts of the city. With the help of her family, the Chicago band, and the General Treasury, the temple pictured above was acquired around 1973. Bishop Scates also established the Less Fortunate Saints Home here.
The current pastor, Bishop Louis Hardwick, assumed the post at Joliet, Illinois in 1977. He and his family relocated to Joliet during the lifetime of Bishop Scates and he was appointed to the position after her death.
