THE 103rd ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY THEME:
"Fishers of Men"
Welcome to the 2010 Annual General Assembly of The Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth, Inc.    This is our 103rd Annual General Assembly; and it all started in Greenville, Alabama in 1908.   To God be the glory!
That time has surely arrived when we must renew our efforts and again become the "fishers of men" that Jesus said he would make of His disciples if, indeed, they would follow Him (Matt 4: 19). As followers of Christ, we too must become fishers of men. I am reminded of Deacon Raleigh Milton and Elder Luke Milton. They were great fishermen. If you knew them, they had (what amounted to as) great "tackle boxes" (as Bishop Hardwick and I called them), equipped with many and various kinds of "lures." They knew exactly what fish were attracted to what lure; in which waters to navigate; and what skills were necessary in order to be successful fishermen. The elders of us must teach our young leaders who seem to be "pillars" (Galatians 2:9), to become the fishers of men that we were taught to be. As fishers of men, we must have in our "tackle boxes" the right equipment required to fish for souls. The "voice of the Lord [Word of God] is upon the waters" (Psa 29:3) in which we will have to fish. It is "powerful", "full of majesty", "breaketh the cedars", "divideth the flames of fire", "shaketh the wilderness", "maketh the hinds to calve". In other words, whatever the stronghold of Satan, with the power of God, we have been commissioned to "to root out, and to pull down , and to destroy , and to throw down , to build , and to plant" (Jer. 1:10). Our equipment ("tackle") comes from the Word of God (the Bible); of truth, of sin, of righteousness, of judgment (John 16:7-11), and of salvation (Gen 49:18; Exo 14:13; 15:2; 2 Sam 22:3; Luke 1:69, 77; 2:30; 3:6; Acts 4:12; 16:17; 28:28; Rom 1:16; 13:11; and others).
Yours faithfully,
(Bishop) M. H. Lewis, Chief Overseer |
