Faith, Doctrine and Polity

1. History. The CLGPGT was revived by Mary Lena Lewis-Tate (St. Mary Magdalena Tate, affectionately called "Mother Tate" by her followers) and her two sons, Walter Curtis and Felix Early Lewis in 1903.
2. Faith and Doctrine. The Church subscribes to a faith of "true Holiness" (Col 3:10; Eph 4:24). We believe in the Holy Trinity, Water baptism (by immersion), Spirit (the Holy Ghost) baptism with evidence of speaking in unknown and/or other tongues, sanctification, fasting, praying, tithing, among other tenets.
3. The Bible. The King James("Authorized Version") is the basic reference from which all tenets and articles of faith are derived. Other contemporary versions of the Bible may be used for study purposes and are so noted when reference is made to them.
4. Church Publications. Two Church publications contain contemporary statements of Church faith, doctrine and polity: The Constitution, Government, and General Decree Book of the CLGPGT, (1924); and, The Beauty of Holiness: A Small Catechism of the Holiness Faith and Doctrine, (1990), both are published by the New and Living Way Publishing Company, Nashville, Tennessee.
5. General Headquarters. Originally established at 1915 Heiman Street, Nashville, TN in 1923, the site was relocated to 4520 Ashland City Hwy, Nashville, TN in 1980. The site is currently under construction.

There are several "conventions" used throughout these web sites which we would like to point out to you. To save space, local Churches are often indicated by their four-letter code (e.g., TUSK=Tuskegee, AL), the national Body's codes are: CLGPGT, CLG, and UCLG. Whenever referring to The CLGPGT (the Body of Christ), the initial "C" of the word Church is always capitalized. Finally, to distinguish us from more recently chartered Churches of the Living God, etc., you will often see our founding year(1903) attached to the church name.
